7-Hour Sleep is Perfect for Middle-Aged Adults, 3-Country Study Finds

More or less than 7 hours linked to cognitive decline and poorer mental health.

A study of 500,000 adults aged 40-69 from the UK, US, and China found that 7 hours of sleep per night is optimal for middle-aged adults. Both shorter and longer sleep durations were associated with cognitive decline, poorer mental health, and lower cognitive processing speed. The study was published in Nature Human Behaviour.
