HRD Ministry mandates mother tongue or regional language as medium of instruction in all schools.
The Ministry of Education announced that under the New Education Policy 2026, all schools across India must make regional languages or mother tongue compulsory till Class 10. Students will have to study at least two languages, including one regional language. The policy aims to preserve linguistic diversity and improve learning outcomes.
